Race Week

Airlie Beach and Hamilton Island

During the month of August sailors and yachtsmen and women descend upon the Whitsundays for the Airlie Beach Tropical Shirt Regatta followed closely by Hamilton Island Race Week.

2018 will be our 11th year at Hamilton Island Race Week.  Over the years we’ve made it onto the daily podium at least once most years, finishing in the top three in our division on handicap. Condor won Cruising Division 1 overall in 2010 and came third in 2011 and third in 2017.  Some of our guests this year will be joining us for the 10th time. Airlie Beach Race Week 2016 Hammer finished a well earned second (on count back) with the crew keen to return to claim the title in 2017 and 2018

In recent years Cruising Division 1 has been the place to be with Condor, Hammer, Whitebirds (formally Bobsled) Helsal 3 (formally the Office) and Maxi Ragamuffin contesting both regattas.  Some fantastic racing has been had between the yachts wherein one race in 2013, 4 yachts rounded the last mark after 3.5hours of racing all overlapped!

Hamilton Island 2008 contest was the first regatta Condor has sailed since retirement from the maxi circuit.

Our guests range in experience from recreational sailors to experienced offshore racers who all formed a great team within a very short space of time. The Prosail crew help the team to learn the boat’s intricacies and by day 3, the team is largely running the boat on their own. All guests acted as skipper at some stage and all took turns trimming the sails. Of an evening guests and crews enjoy the entertainment of   Festivities, including live music, restaurants, street parties and generally a good time is had by all.
